I manage all my bulk storage using ZFS (similar to storage spaces), and it makes me feel comfortable knowing that I could recover a set of disks out of a server and rebuild them on any commodity hardware. You still would not use it for the system drive. Storage spaces in 2012 is much better, but is it's own beast. No multi-level arrays, no hot swapping, no hot spares. In the disk manager in 2008, you get RAID 0, 1, and 5. #Softraid windows 10 software#I would not recommend using software RAID to protect your system drive. My suggestion is that soft RAID is great for bulk storage, poor for availability for system drives. RAID field experience is what I primarily want - not just technical but general 'sense' of how things would work - but that being said any links I can be directed to for technical comparison of the scenarios I have outlined that would be appreciated as well. How much difference would adding 500 meg of cache to each controller be so that the aggregate is 1 gig just as with the expensive controller?ĭoes Windows software mirroring allow for 'spare ready-to-go' hot swap as is available in RAID configurations - you setup an extra drive in the RAID unit that lays dormant until such time as a failure of a drive in the RAID and then it gets swapped in automatically. Would the size of the drives make a difference e.g. I know it's difficult to give hard numbers but approximately what kind of a hit would there be with scenario 1 - RAID - vs scenario 2 - simple software mirror - vs scenario 3 - dual controller mirroring? ability to move the drives and/or controller to another system if there should be a problem. In the latter two cases the obvious extra cost is more drives but let's say ease of transportability is determined to be worth it in this case - e.g. With a software mirror I could at the low end just have two arrays of 10 TB drives on a single drive chain.Īt the high end for mirroring I could have 2 not so top of the line controllers with minimcal cache, let's say - each at half the price of the expensive controller (which is approximately correct for some actual gear I've scoped out) - each controller with its own chain of drives. With a hardware RAID I would have a high end RAID controller with a good chunk cache - let's say 1 gig - and then add a pile of drives - let's assume SATA for this discussion - that would end up being more than 10 TB depending on the type of RAID I wanted. We have had quite a few discussions about the differences between hardware and software RAID and I am hoping I can get some input on the topic.įor instance let's say I had 10 TB I wanted to mirror as opposed to hardware RAID'd. That isn’t to say that publishers won’t take outside ideas - it does happen. If you want to be somebody like that, you either need to work your ass off to climb the corporate ladder, or you need to start your own studio and hire people to make your ideas happen. Everybody in game development, from the highest executive down to the freshly hired tester has their own ideas for games. Only a select few - the studio heads, the executive producers, etc. Publishers have their own people with decades of experience actually making games that come up with the ideas for games they wish to make. But can’t I just sell the great idea to a publisher? Can’t I just be the “Idea Guy” and paid for it? So that goes back to recruiting and building a demo of the game to make it happen… and that usually means leveraging your own money to pay for it. If you can’t show them that, they probably won’t part with their hard-earned money. It’s going to be tough to convince the people out there to give you money for your game idea though - it’s not a very well-known process, and most of them will want to see something to demonstrate how or why the idea will work. Convince people with money that your game idea is worth makingĬould be one person or a lot. If you go this route, you should be very careful about things like scope creep and the development schedule. This number will vary depending on where you’re located and such. #Skatebird alpha beta gamer software#As a general rule of thumb, you’ll have to consider that a full-time mid-level software engineer will cost around $10,000 per month of employment including things like office space, employment benefits, and taxes. Put up the money for the development, recruit some developers, and they can make it for you. Maybe you can try recruiting some others to help you out as you go. It’s just an overall great time, and I highly recommend it.Feel the thrill of the chase and the rush of escape in Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit Remastered on Nintendo Switch™. There’s a fun story with some real truths mixed in. I adored Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion! It’s a Metroidvania for those of us who suck at Metroidvanias. I enjoyed my time with the post-game content and that’s enough for me. For me, it’s a one and done, as there isn’t anything new to be gained from playing it again. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a short and very enjoyable game. After the credits roll, jump back in and keep going! Replayability: Of course, defeating the final boss isn’t the end of the game, nor is it the actual final boss. It’s a very accessible game for all skill levels. The game as a whole trends towards easy, which I appreciated. The final boss’ identity is fairly obvious and it’s not the most difficult fight. They don’t seem to do anything except look cute. He’s meant to shred them! You’ll also pick up various hats that you can wear at anytime. Turnip Boy will find paperwork on his travels, but they’re not collectibles in the traditional sense. Health is also quite generous, as you can collect it from fallen enemies or hidden in foliage.īut this isn’t just a straightforward adventure. Of course, some enemies, particularly bosses, have some wacky patterns and more health, but nothing that can’t be handled. It’s just a matter of hitting the enemy the appropriate number of times, nothing sneaky or tricky. Just move Turnip Boy around and interact with objects, NPCs, and enemies. There’s no jumping, thus zero platforming. Abundant signage is also helpful, since there is no map.Ĭontrols are very easy and intuitive. So there is quite a bit of back-and-forth, but the map is quite small, so it’s not tedious or overwhelming. You’ll run into areas that are blocked off, which you’ll have to return to later after unlocking some other equipment or feature. Turnip Boy is given tasks by Mayor Onion, but can also pick up side quests from the other residents. In fact, I’d call it a Mini Metroidvania, since it does use that game format but on a much smaller scale. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a 2D adventure game with some Metriodvania elements. Some of them are quite humorous, such as when you pick up a health heart. The sound effects are simple but effective. It’s so upbeat and catchy, fitting the silly nature of the game perfectly. I adored the music in Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. Snails and bunnies? Well, they are vegetarians… Veggie Village and the surrounding areas are bustling with life! The NPCs are all various fruits and vegetables, and the enemies are not your typical baddies. I know it’s totally overdone, but I enjoy it, and this game looks particularly great. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is done is super adorable, vibrant pixel art. Exploring this vegetable world unlocks more and more secrets and clearly something fishy is going on… Visuals: You think you’re going on simple fetch quests to get Turnip Boy’s home back, but there’s so much more to it.
